Welcome to NEAMAP!

Developed to meet the needs of fisheries management and stock assessment activities in the northeastern United States, NEAMAP (Northeast Area Monitoring and Assessment Program) is an integrated, cooperative state/federal data collection program. Its mission is to facilitate the collection and dissemination of fishery-independent information obtained in the Northeast for use by state and federal fisheries management agencies, the fishing industry (commercial and recreational), researchers, and others requesting such information. The intent of NEAMAP is not to change existing programs, but to coordinate and standardize procedures and improve data quality and accessibility.

NEAMAP partners include the state marine fishery agencies from Maine through North Carolina, the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission, the National Marine Fisheries Service Northeast Fisheries Science Center, the New England and Mid-Atlantic Fishery Management Councils, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the Potomac River Fisheries Commission, and the District of Columbia.

NEAMAP surveys that are a part of the program include: NEAMAP Southern New England/Mid-Atlantic Nearshore Trawl Survey - Initiated through NEAMAP in Fall 2006 to fill survey gaps in the Mid-Atlantic and conducted by the Virginia Institute of Marine Science (VIMS), as well as the longer running Maine/New Hampshire Inshore Trawl Survey and the Massachusetts Division of Marine Fisheries Bottom Trawl Survey.
